Where the products are used

MAATS Tech specialises in the provision of bespoke carousel systems, which handle flexible pipe, umbilicals, power cables and even chain. The Disc-Lock Safety Wheel Nut is used on the Tensioners that are used for loading out the product stored in the carousels, either from the manufacturing facility or the on-shore store. They are also utilised for laying products in shallow water. The Tensioners can handle a huge selection of pipes and cables with a wide range of different diameters and sizes.

Why they use are products

MAATS Tech have specified Disc-Lock Safety Wheel Nuts for their Tensioners as a secure and safe locking system that enables the equipment to run without any issues of loose nuts, which would cause the equipment to fail, leading to downtime and repairs.

The Tensioners are in operation in extreme conditions in the world’s oceans and are subjected to salt spray conditions that previously resulted in the Geomet coating corroding at an accelerated level. This led to the Safety Wheel Nuts having to be replaced at regular intervals, which is both time consuming and costly.

The DLE solution

Tensioner machine made by MAATS Tech LtdAs a solution to the corrosion issue, Disc-Lock coated the Safety Wheel Nut with a new coating called Greenkote. This is an advanced thermal diffusion coating that is environmentally-friendly and delivers exceptional protection against corrosion as well as enhanced durability and other performance advantages. This means that the Disc-Lock Safety Wheel Nut is able to withstand the extreme conditions for a longer period and provide great resistance against the salt spray.

Future Products

MAATS Tech have supplied several vessels with Tensioners that have been fitted with Disc-Lock Safety Wheel Nuts. Future projects will involve replacing the original Geomet Safety Wheel Nuts with the new Greenkote-coated Safety Wheel Nuts. This will be carried out over a period of time, when the vessels are in for maintenance.
